I must have been completely sleeping on this, but a film has been made about Stuart Hall, the Jamaican-born British media and cultural theorist, a key figure in the Birmingham School of Cultural Studies, and later, a Professor of Sociology at The Open University (I remember fondly, from my short time there, working in a building directly connected to the Stuart Hall Building at the Milton Keynes campus). John Akomfrah’s The Unfinished Conversation has been screened at the Liverpool Biennial and Sundance 2013, amongst other venues. Mark Hudson, writing for the Telegraph, called it a “beautiful and moving film … If Hall isn’t quite a household name, much less an ackowledged national treasure, this film will convince you he should be both.” Reviews are also available from Hollywood Reporter, Filmmaker Magazine and Indie Wire.
