After browsing through Wired UK’s November 2009 issue on the digital city, somehow, through some chain of accidents and accidental thoughts, I had come to believe, strongly, that The Building Centre in London was currently hosting an exhibit on Digital Cities: London’s Future, and indeed, that said exhibit was just about finished. I kept reminding myself: see it; see it. I even had my phone tell me – ‘go to Digital Cities today’. So I arrive at The Building Centre, which is right around the corner from my office at Birkbeck (thankfully, it so happens), and I am met with confused looks on asking where the exhibit is. Turns out it ended aleady, indeed long ago, on 24 January *2009*. So long ago the woman at the reception had to strain her memory to recall the exhibit.
Maybe I haven’t internalized that it’s 2010 yet. Or maybe I just wanted to believe it was on still and ignored the date. Or maybe, just maybe, the website isn’t all that clear. The irony is that the idea for Wired UK’s November issue quite likely came out of the exhibit, and its related (and expensive) conference. I get more bumbling every day.
